After nearly a year, I finally made it to this charming downtown Detroit restaurant I’ve been wanting to try. The old fire department headquarters is repurposed into this attractive space for a wonderful meal. Everything about our evening was beyond enjoyable. We were immediately sat and then greeted by our server who was friendly and knowledgeable. She had recommendations and advice on everything. I started the evening with an Old Foundation from the bar. The drink was superb. Take the time to look around and appreciate the old architecture, the repurposed ceiling tiles, the light fixtures. They’ve done a wonderful job tying in the old with the new. On the server’s recommendation we had appetizers of Deviled Eggs, Crispy Fried Cauliflower and Harissa Spiced Carrot Salad. Each was better than the next. The cauliflower had just a little spice. The carrot salad was a true delight. The eggs had a welcome, unusual hint of Japanese flavor. We also had a chance to try the Heritage Wheat Bread. It was light and delicious. We indulged so much on the appetizers we barely had room for the main course. Thankfully we had been advised to order appropriately. We shared the Smoked Michigan Ribeye. Perfectly prepared. We could barely finish. Unfortunately, there was no room for dessert… this time. But, we will definitely be back.
