Finally had an opportunity to try Anna’s House for lunch today. It opened a few months ago and looked very inviting. I couldn’t wait to try what they claim has been “voted the best breakfast in Michigan”. The restaurant is bright, airy, open, with a fun vibe. There is a counter like an old soda shop. A fresh, updated version of a 50s diner or malt shop. I had a BLT and my date had red velvet pancakes. We both really enjoyed our meals. I added avocado to my sandwich. The BLT is a triple decker and comes on Texas toast. It was huge! Very tasty. I chose the side of kale chips. I wouldn’t chose them again. Felt more like eating paper. The red velvet pancakes come alone on the plate with just the side of cream cheese frosting. It’s a plain presentation. Despite the presentation they were quite yummy. Our server was friendly and attentive. There was a small problem with the order and it was swiftly attended to with apologies from the server and the manager. I am told that there are 6 other locations of Anna's House. One being in Westland MI., and the others on the west side of the state. I’m looking forward to more pleasant, delicious meals at Anna’s House. Anna’s House 32555 Northwestern Highway Farmington Hills, MI 48334 248-254-3436 Annashouseus.com

Saturday night we stumbled onto a new restaurant. Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse is inside the new Holiday Inn off of 12 Mile Road near Farmington Road in Farmington Hills. I had some reservations about a steakhouse in a Holiday Inn. But the pictures and menu online looked inviting. Having just opened May 1, 2018, it seemed it would be a good choice for a quiet evening. Johnny’s has it’s own entrance, so diners don’t have to walk through the hotel. It’s a pleasant atmosphere. Clean and modern but not a whole lot of character. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who seated us immediately at a cozy booth near the blue lit bar. Our server, Paulette, was helpful and knowledgeable. They are only offering a limited menu currently. But we had no trouble finding some wonderful options. We ordered an appetizer of the Smoked Salmon Dip. It was a delicious start to the evening. When my salad came out Paulette brought a basket of bread. Once she noticed we weren’t trying it, Paulette came by to point out the bread is homemade and the olive oil for dipping is herb infused. She encouraged us to try it and I’m glad she did. My husband had the Johnny’s Supperclub Spinach salad. He added salmon for protein. I had the Midwest’s Best Filet Mignon with a loaded baked potato on the side. . We both really enjoyed our meals. My filet was perfectly cooked. Overall this was a great dinner. A nice quiet meal. Wonderful food. Friendly service. Although, I’m not sure exactly what Johnny’s is trying to be. An upscale steakhouse or a casual dinner spot? Either way, the food was definitely done right. Johnny’s is a chain and has many locations across the country. We were told another one will be opening in the near future in Livonia.
